
Robert F. "Bob" Laird, 78, of Mansfield, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2011 at his home with his family by his side. Born June 15, 1932 in Ashland, he was the son of Harold and Mildred Kirsh Laird. He graduated from Ashland High School in 1950 and attended Ashland University before graduating from the Ohio State University. On June 21, 1953 he married his high school sweetheart, Beverly James. An active member of First Christian Church, Bob held many positions and loved singing in the choir. He was the past President and Governor of Ohio Civitan and member of R.S.V.P. Retired and Senior Volunteer Program and Toy Time. Bob also worked with the Special Olympics and the Salvation Army. He lived for his family and friends and loved traveling the world with his wife.
He is survived by his son, Steven R. Laird Becky Overman of Mansfield; granddaughter, Shawna Brian Dion of Bellville; grandson, Scott Laird Hannah Cook of Mansfield; great grandson, Luke Ryder Dion of Bellville; sister, Joan Hynek of Ashland; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, October 6, 2009. The family would like to send a special thanks to the Visiting Nurses Association and the Adult Daycare at Dayspring.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 5:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 200 W. Third St., Mansfield, conducted by Rev. Chris Whitehead. Friends may visit at the church beginning at 3:00 p.m. to the time of the service. Memorial contributions in Bob's memory may be made to the First Christian Church of Mansfield.
