

Robert N. "Bob" Monastra, 85, of Ontario, passed away Monday afternoon, July 28, 2014 at OhioHealth MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after a short illness.. He was born October 26, 1928 in North Canton, Ohio, to the late Mary (Crimaldi) and Frank Monastra.
Bob retired from the US Postal Service after 31 years as a letter carrier. He attended St. Peter's Catholic Church. An avid baseball fan, he was a faithful follower of the Cincinnati Reds. He was especially intrigued with statistics in baseball, but enjoyed sports of all kinds. Bob was also an avid coin collector, and train and street car enthusiast. In his free time, he enjoyed listening to 1940s Big Band music and watching television. Above all, his family was most important to him.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Tremaine Monastra; daughter, Mary (Joe) Sizemore of Mifflin Township; two sons, Mike Monastra of Mansfield and Joseph (Michele) Monastra of Lewis Center, OH; six grandchildren, Michael (Michelle) Sizemore of Mansfield, Jennifer (Scott) Cain of Shelby, Sara Monastra of Delaware, Ryan Monastra of Mansfield, Nate Monastra and Sam Monastra, both of Lewis Center; one great-granddaughter, Natalie Cain of Shelby; a brother, Basil (Millie) Monastra of Lexington; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Geno Monastra.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service conducted by Dean Jackson will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
