
Robert 'Sammy' Mullins, 68, died Sunday, November 6, 2005 after a two-year battle with lung cancer. On October 4, 1937, Sam was born to the late E.L. and Myrtle Asbury Mullins in Bradshaw, West Virginia. He lived in that area until he joined the U.S. Air Force. He served from 1955 to 1959. While serving in England, he met and married the late Margaret Copley. He lived in Leicester, England until he returned to Ohio in the early 1980's. Sam was retired from General Motors. He enjoyed golfing at Valley View and playing his guitar and other string instruments. He was a member of the American Legion #243, the Amvets #1979, and a retired member of the UAW Local 549.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Karen Mullins of Markfield, Leicestershire, England; daughter and son-in-law, Lesley and Nick Bates of Leicester, England; grandchildren, Emma and Callum Mullins, and Harry and Archie Bates, all of England; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Carolyn Mullins of Medom, Tennessee, Ernest and Jean Mullins of Statesville, North Carolina, and Luther Mullins of Collierville, Tennessee; sisters and brother-in-law, Irene Phillips of Crestline, and Dawneda and George Yost of Pace, Florida; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, Sam was preceded in death by an infant sister, Shirley Rose; brother, Joe Mullins; and brother-in-law, J.P. Phillips.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2005 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home officiated by Pastor Fred Bleck. Military honors will follow the service at the funeral home conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105-1942.
