
Robert B. 'Bob' Talbott, 88, of Mansfield died early Sunday morning, August 31, 2003 at Smithville Western Commons in Wooster after an extended illness. He was born February 17, 1915 in Philippi, West Virginia to W. Bruce and Mabel Wright Talbott. He graduated from Philippi High School and attended the University of West Virginia, The Ohio State University and Mansfield Business College. Bob was an area resident since 1943 and retired in 1979 after 33 years of service with the federal government as a quality assurance specialist. He was first with the U.S. Corp of engineers at Huntington, West Virginia and Detroit, Michigan and later with the Defense Logistics Agency of Cleveland, Ohio. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he had served as president of the Board of Trustees, chairman of the pastor-parish committees, and assistant treasurer and auditor. Bob was the Clerk-Treasurer for 4 years of the Mifflin Local School district till its merger with the Madison Local School district in 1957. He served on the Madison School Board for 12 years and was president, six of those years. He was an avid sports fan and golfer and had played in the commercial golf league at Forest Hills since 1965. He was a member of the Retired Association of Federal Employees and A.A.R.P.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen 'Mickey' and Linda Talbott of Savannah, Tennessee and Bruce and Becky Talbott of Wooster; and four grandchildren, Sandra Talbott of Savannah, Tennessee, Dr. James R. Talbott of Nashville, Tennessee, Tracy Talbott Miner and her husband, Justin and Tara Talbott, both of Wooster. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Virginia Marie Hill Talbott in 2000; parents; two brothers; and a sister.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Shawn Bishop, will be held Wednesday, September 3 at 2:00 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Friends may call two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow in Windsor Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Hospice of Wayne County or a memorial fund at Trinity United Methodist Church for Red Bird Mission.
