
Robert E. Thompson, 72, of 1779 Ashland Rd. died early Sunday morning February 13, 2000 at his home unexpectedly. Mr. Thompson was born September 3, 1927 in Mansfield, OH and has resided in the area all of his life. He was a member of the Woodville Grace Brethren Church, a life member of VFW #9943 and American Legion in Bellville, and also a member of Sons of Herman. He was working at Forest Hills Golf Course in the Pro Shop, he retired from Culligan Soft Water after 46 years of service and he served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Surviving are his wife, Carol, whom he married October 27, 1972; four sons & daughters-in-law, Mike & fiancé, Lisa Thompson of Macon, Georgia, Terry & Kay Thompson, Scott & Marla Thompson, and Tim & Marsha Hoover all of Mansfield; one daughter & son-in-law, Tamara & Charlie Akers of Mansfield; twelve grandchildren, Sara Ralph Kirkpatrick, Trevor, Travis, & Ashley Thompson, Whit & Cameron Thompson, Nick & Eric Holzwarth, Rachel Thompson, Jason & Josh Hoover and Robby Akers all of Mansfield; two great-grandchildren, Michael & Morgan Kirkpatrick; and one brother & sister-in-law, Clarence & Toni Thompson of Mansfield and a sister-in-law, Pearl Thompson of Mansfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, James & Alice Simpson Thompson; and one brother, Jim Thompson. Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Tuesday February 15, 2000 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 16, 2000 at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m., conducted by Rev. Lester A. Vnasdale. Private family burial will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
