
Robert R. 'Rabbit' Wentz, 86, of Mansfield, died Wednesday morning March 9, 2005 at Winchester Terrace after a brief illness. Born June 28, 1918 in Mansfield, he was the son of Albert and Goldie Arehart Wentz.
Survivors include one daughter, Pamela Christie and her husband, Eugene Evans of Columbus; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Martha Wentz of Mansfield, and Richard and Marilyn Wentz of South Carolina; several nieces and nephews; and his pal George the cat. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma; his parents; and one brother, John Wentz.
He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and a 1937 graduate of St. Peter's High School. He retired from Gorman-Rupp. Mr. Wentz was a life member of the American Legion #16, and a life member of 40 et 8 Vorture #20. He was active in fast pitch softball programs in Mansfield, assisted in the 50's and 60's with American Legion Jr. Baseball, and volunteered with Toy Time. Mr. Wentz served in the United States Army during WWII in France, Belgium, and Germany, receiving the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday March 12, 2005 at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Friends may call one hour prior to the service, from 12 to 1 p.m., at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Military graveside services will follow in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Angel Refuge or the Monsignor Dunn Foundation.
