
Rosa Mae Blackwell, 94, of Lexington, died Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at Lexington Court Care. Born April 30, 1914, in Grand Rivers, Kentucky, she was the daughter of James Albert and Mary Elizabeth Combs Howell. Rosa was a waitress at various restaurants in the Mansfield area including Isley's and Mansfield Restaurant and was known for her coconut cream pies. She was a member of Lincoln Heights Baptist Church and dearly loved her family and her church. A nature lover, she enjoyed feeding the birds.
Surviving are a son, Leon Blackwell, Jr. of Ontario; two grandchildren, Cynthia Timothy Ling and Norval Kim Blackwell; great grandchildren, Erica Ben Rader, Lindsay Neal Franzen, Emily Chris Albrecht, Ryan Blackwell and Katie Aaron Studer; eight great great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Parks of Ypsilanti, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Blackwell, Sr.; a brother, Rev. James Howell; a sister, Ida Butler; and two daughters-in-law, Glenda Blackwell and Wanda F. Blackwell.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2009, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Mansfield, OH 44906. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 16, 2009, at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Mike Wilson. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Lincoln Heights Baptist Church Building Fund.
