
Rose Pace DiBenedetto, 95, died Sunday evening, April 17, 2005, at Good Shepherd Home. She was born on February 10, 1910, in Bagheria, Sicily and came to American with her family in 1916, landing at Ellis Island. The Pace family settled in New York City where Rose grew up and learned the trade of a seamstress. She worked in the garment district of New York for over 40 years of her life. In 1929, she wed Gaetano Thomas DiBenedetto, to whom she was married until his death in 1967. 'G.G.', as her family lovingly called her, lived most of her life in New York and spent several years in New Jersey. She and her son and daughter-in-law moved to Ashland in September 2003 to be closer to their family.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Margarete DiBenedetto, of Ashland; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Mary Rose and Allan Andersen; grandson, Thomas DiBenedetto and his friend, Laura Howard of Ann Arbor, Michigan; great-granddaughter, Kristina King of Boynton Beach, Florida; great-granddaughter and great-grandson-in-law, Heidi and Jake McFrederick and their four children, Erika, Alyssa, Daisy and Lexi. Also surviving are one nephew, John Martorano and his wife, Rose of Queens, New York. She was preceded in death by her husband, and parents, Francesco and Maria Bellone Pace.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Edward's Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. James Cassidy. Friends may call at the Ashland home of Wappner Funeral Directors from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery, Long Island, New York. Memorial donations may be made to St. Edward's Catholic Church.
