Roy E. Wilson, of Shelby, died Saturday December 6, 2003. Roy was born December 15, 1942 to Gladys and George Wilson in Louisa, Kentucky, and lived in Fort Gay, West Virginia until he joined the United States Navy in 1960. He was stationed in Winter Harbor, Maine until his discharge in 1963. He was always disappointed that he never got the chance to serve on a ship, so a highlight of his life was going aboard and touring the U.S.S. Wisconsin in Norfolk, Virginia last summer. Roy worked construction for a few months in Maine until he got hurt. He returned to Fort Gay, West Virginia, and then joined his father in moving to Mansfield, Ohio in 1963 to work at Ideal Electric, where he has worked for the past forty years. Most of his years at Ideal Electric were spent in assembly. Roy was looking forward to retirement next year, counting down every week he was paid with the number of paychecks left to go until he retired.
As a lifetime member of the NRA and North America Hunting Club, Roy loved his guns, hunting and fishing and was looking forward to having time to do those hobbies once he was retired. His biggest passion was his '99 Harley Davidson Heritage Softtail Classic motorcycle. He rode motorcycles most of his life and loved the sound and freedom it gave him when he rode. He taught his wife Lorrie how to ride and loved when they went on long rides together. Lorrie was the only one he would ride with. The motto 'Live to Ride, Ride to Live' certainly applied to Roy's life because he felt truly alive when he rode. He also loved his Dodge Truck 'Ol'Red,'
of which he always teased his wife that it was his and she would say it was hers. Roy also loved Tigger and Yosemite Sam, and is the reason for the name of his truck 'Ol'Red.'
Roy is survived by his wife Lorrie Breen Carroll Wilson, of Shelby whom he married July 11, 2001 in Bar Harbor, Maine. Roy chose Bar Harbor because he wanted to show Lorrie how beautiful Maine was, and also the places he went while serving in the Navy. Roy is also survived by his step-son and step-daughter whom he loved as though they were his own, Brandon and Karlie Carroll, both of Shelby; his mother Gladys Wilson of Mansfield; four brothers, Brian, Danny, Daryl and Rick, all of Mansfield; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Bonnie and Jerry Whitehead of Mansfield, Lavina and Russell Messimer of Mansfield, Rita and Lon Culp of Lucas, and Brenda Chance of Mansfield; two brothers-in law and two sisters-in-law, Denny and Sandy Breen and Mike and Jackie Breen of Mansfield, Connie Barre of Mansfield, and Bonnie and Curt Green of Ashland; a very special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pat and John Morrow of Virginia; a special uncle, Lewis 'June' Wilson of Mansfield; and good friends at Ideal Electric: Terry Dameron, and Les Piroska whom he considered brothers. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins. Roy was preceded in death by his father, George; a brother, George; and an infant brother, Larry.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Tuesday December 9, 2003 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
