
Ruth Ann Collins, 82, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 21, 2010 at Brethren Care Village in Ashland. Born November 10, 1927 in Mansfield, she was the only child of the late LaRue Aughey and Raymond C. Wolf. Ruth was a 1945 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School and received her LPN licensure in 1967. She was a deeply devoted woman to her family, friends and her faith. Ruth possessed an unflappable composure that allowed her to remain calm in any situation. For 13 years, she worked in the offices of Dr. Lawrence C. Thompson, Dr. James Jones and Dr. Robert Burns. She had previously worked at Mansfield General Hospital in the nursery. Ruth volunteered her time with the American Red Cross for eight years. She was a member of the First Church of God, A.A.R.P., Child Guidance Club, Altrusa International of Mansfield, L.P.N.A.O. and N.A.P.N.E.S. Ruth shared 58 ½ wonderful years with her husband, Richard L. Collins, Sr., sharing in the joys of parenting and creating many lasting memories. In retirement, they enjoyed travelling together, especially on many Caribbean and Alaskan cruises.
She is survived by two sons, Rick Vicki Collins of Madison and Jim Amy Collins of Mansfield; two daughters, Kathy Dale Hammond of Massillon and Ann Collins of Cambridge; twelve grandchildren, Rebecca John Nixon, Jeff Jamie Collins, Christopher Alison Hammond, Sara Richard House, Elizabeth Miguel Covarrubia, Steven Hammond, Bryan Collins Diana Franklin, Jamie Donald Jenkins, Jennifer Justin Meister, Tina Gerry Scott, Stacy Collins Todd Warner, and Jason Collins Katie Skrajner; and twenty-four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Lucas, Kendall, Callie, Conner, Samantha, Kelsey, Jordan, Destinee, Caleb, Josiah, Maya, Alessandra, Daniel, Cody, Kaila, Skylar, Kortney, Riley, Reese, Reagan, Matthew, Alexis and Peyton. In addition to her parents, her husband, Richard L. Collins, Sr. preceded her in death on April 6, 2006.
Friends may visit from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, October 24, 2010 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. Funeral services will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home with her son-in-law, Dale Hammond officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
