
Samuel J. Marvicsin, Sr., 93, of Mansfield, died Sunday, February 20, 2011, at MedCentral Mansfield. Born December 20, 1917, in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of Peter and Anna Marvicsin. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II where he flew combat missions in B-17 and B-24 Bombers in Europe. Samuel retired from General Motors in 1982 and was a very talented commercial painter who thoroughly enjoyed his work as people were still calling on him for his abilities. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and was a life member of the American Legion Post 16 and the VFW Post 9943. A caring and well liked man, he will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are his wife, Lois Marvicsin; four children, David Linda Marvicsin of Augusta, GA, Beth Brooks of Walhonding, Ohio, Becky Marvicsin of Mt. Vernon, OH and Samuel Tamara Marvicsin, Jr. of Mansfield; four grandchildren, Kevin Bethany Timmer of Lexington, OH, Ryan Timmer of Jacksonville, FL, Samuel A. Marvicsin of Dearing, GA and Keith Marvicsin of Oklahoma City, OK; great grandchildren, Bailey, Kevin, and Jacob Timmer; 12 step children and numerous other grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Rush of Collegeville, Pennsylvania and a brother, Steven Marvicsin of Sandusky, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents and his second wife, Evelyn Marvicsin.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 25, 2011, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Pentti Maki. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Full military services conducted by the Richland County Veterans Burial Squad will be held at the church prior to going to the cemetery.
