As a child, Sara was able to visit her father’s homeland of Sweden and travelled throughout much of Europe. As a preteen, she became a good golfer, an accomplished horseback rider, and an avid reader of horse stories and Nancy Drew mysteries.
Sara graduated from Madison High School with the class of 1955. She played the flute and the piccolo in the band and sang in the school choir.
After a year at Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia, she decided to focus on office skills. She took secretarial classes and ultimately opened a home office called Central Typing. She wrote many resumes, proofread and typed many college papers, and edited several novels.
Sara enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida with friends from all over the United States. They had fun playing games, going to plays, eating at seafood restaurants, participating in potluck dinners, and occasionally cruising the Caribbean. She also learned to crochet beautiful blankets and developed into a wonderful cook and became quite a cat lover.
In later life, Sara continued reading mystery novels and spent many hours putting together puzzles. She especially enjoyed making new friends and playing Bingo several times a week.
Sara is survived by her sister, Sonja Hedeen Sittason of Cincinnati, two nephews, Sean Hedeen Sittason and Shepherd Anders Sittason, two great-nephews and two great-nieces. Marita and Ray Currati, family members living in Mansfield, always included Sara in family gatherings and holiday celebrations and frequently checked in with her.
Sara led a varied, colorful life and will be missed by her many devoted friends, her family, and her numerous “well cared for” cats.
Special thanks to Karen, Beth, Sheila, and Ben for their many hours of hard work and “doing the impossible.”
Private burial services will be held at a later date.
Advantage Funeral and Cremation Services by Wappner is honored to serve the family.
