

Stephen was a graduate of Madison High School and served with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War as a Navy Seal. Following his service in the Navy, he served in the United States Coast Guard. He was a member of the American Legion in Shelby. Stephen held various jobs including a fireman and a car salesman but most recently was employed by a medical transport company, driving patients to and from their medical appointments. He had also owned and operated several businesses in the Mansfield area.
Stephen loved the ocean and traveled to see it often. He also enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by four daughters, Tonya Shade, Nicole (Chris) Hoover, Amanda (Brian) Meyers and Sarah Shade; six grandchildren, Quentin, Gavin, Tyler, Addison, Liam and Haven; three brothers, Terry (Carol) Shade, Dennis (Chris) Shade and Tim Shade; his mother, Joyce Shade; his father-in-law, Jim (Joann) Rust; his mother-in-law, Mildred (George) Grubbs; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins,
He was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah (Rust) Shade whom he married February 21, 1970; his father, Donald Shade; and a grandson, Dillon.
