
Thelma Elizabeth Stahl, 99, of Mansfield died Thursday morning at Oak Grove Manor following an extended illness. Mrs. Stahl was born January 26, 1908 in Altoona, Pennsylvania and has lived in this area most of her life. Thelma was an active member of Westwood Alliance Church, as well as the Parent Teacher Association both on the local and state level, and was President of the state PTA. She helped to initiate the first driver training class in public schools in Mansfield. After her husband's retirement, they traveled to Africa then Zaire for a missionary project and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary while there.
Surviving are three daughters and one son-in-law, Phyllis Byers-Hetland of Burnsville, MN, Faye and Donald Harris of Mansfield and Barbara Downs of Shelby; ten grandchildren and their spouses, Anne Byers of Edina, MN, Stephen Deborah Mathieu-Byers of New York, NY, Cynthia Kevin Trem, Bobbi Scott Claypoole, all of Akron, Valeri James Hairston, Laurie Barley, Wendi Michael Oswalt, all of Mansfield, Kristina Larry Smith of Highlands Ranch, CO, Paul Elaine Brown of Shelby, and Tim Brown of Mansfield; step grandchildren and their spouses, Carolyn LaFever of Denver, CO, Anne Papandrea of Vernon Hills, IL, Jane Randall McGregor of St. Paul, MN, Linda Dan Krizan and Bryan Downs, both of Mansfield; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; one sister; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul M. Stahl; parents, Walter and Alice Hazel Isenberg; six brothers; two sons-in-law, Paul Hetland and Gerald Downs; step-grandson, David Hetland; and one great-granddaughter, Sarah Wigton.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Monday, April 30 from 10-11 a.m. with funeral services at 11:00 a.m. conducted by Rev. Doyle Peyton. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Evangelism Resources, 425 Epworth Dr., Wilmore, KY 40390.
