Thora M. Laubscher, 87, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Lexington Court Care Center. She was born March 27, 1925 in Mansfield, Ohio and was the daughter of Marion and Beulah Ruckman. Thora graduated from Mansfield Senior High School.
In 1943 Thora married Carl W. Laubscher and they were happily married for 67 years, prior to Carl’s death in 2011. Together they raised 3 children, all residing in the area.
Her career consisted of working at Mansfield Typewriter, Westinghouse, the Leslie Wagner Law Firm, and for Dr. James Acomb before joining her husband in the family owned Laubscher’s Jewelry Store. They worked together until 1983 when they retired and sold the business.
Thora is survived by her children; John Laubscher; Kathy (Les) Jones; and Betsy (Ron) Adams all of Mansfield; grandchildren; Jennifer (Jason) Joseph of Dublin, and Lisa (Joshua) Tarpy of Bay Village; and four great-grandchildren; Tyler, Kaitlyn and Andrew Joseph, and Lucy Tarpy. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lois and Bill Kanz.
Like her husband, Thora enjoyed playing golf and belonged to several leagues in the Mansfield area and also in Naples, Florida where she and Carl wintered after they retired. During their years in Naples, Thora volunteered doing senior services where she transported individuals to medical appointments and delivered meals to the homebound. She also helped with projects at the Lakewood Golf Club and especially enjoyed contributing to a beautification program for the association where the volunteers restored gardens and planned lighting projects within the complex.
Thora was sentimental and would show off pictures of family with pride when sharing stories about them. She was also quick to share a joyful laugh, which was contagious. She will be remembered as a loving, caring, wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed family.
A private graveside service is planned.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lexington Court Care for their generous care and support for Thora when her illness required their skilled care.
