
Velma L. FitzSimmons, 98, of Mansfield, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. Born February 17, 1909 in Mansfield, she was the daughter of Blake and Mae Dalton Diesem. She graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1927 and Mansfield General Hospital School of Nursing in 1931. She was employed as a private duty registered nurse. She was a member of Linden Road Presbyterian Church, the Antiquarian Club and Widows Club. Velma enjoyed antiquing, traveling and spending time with her family, especially her three grandsons. She volunteered for the Bloodmobile program and the Clothes Closet. An excellent cook and pie baker, Velma liked passing on her skills to her daughter-in-law.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Judy FitzSimmons of Lucas; three grandchildren, Jim Therese FitzSimmons of Pleasant Plain, OH, Dave Olivia FitzSimmons of Lucas and Tom Leslie FitzSimmons of Brecksville; and four great-grandchildren, Stephen, Billy, Sarah and Kate. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey M. FitzSimmons in December 1964; her parents; and sister, Genieve.
Funeral services will be Sunday, January 13, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors conducted by Dr. David Aune. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m. Private burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.
