
William 'Bill' Conrad, 83, of Mansfield, died Saturday, July 28, 2007, at MedCentral, Mansfield Hospital. Born March 6, 1924, in Mansfield, he was the son of George and Linda King Conrad. A lifetime area resident, he was a graduate of Madison High School. Bill retired from the city of Mansfield where he was the city plumbing inspector. An avid outdoorsman, he was co-founder and president of the Ohio Bow Hunters Association and was instrumental in starting the Bellville Bow Hunters. His wife and daughter will never forget how caring he was as he was always there for them, and his love for the wildlife and nature was with him always. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Bishop Conrad; a daughter, Sandra Helsel and her fiancé, Clayton Long of Mansfield; a brother, Arthur Conrad of Layton, Utah; good friend of over 40 years, Steve Meeks of Butler, whom he would go hunting and fishing with; good friend, Neil Neer of Mt. Vernon, whom he started the Ohio Bow Hunters Association with; a host of nieces, nephews, good friends, caring neighbors and family. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Fred, George, Gene and Spencer Conrad; and two sisters, Betty Bogantz and Wanda Wolfe.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2007, at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Rich Rader. Burial will follow in Nankin Cemetery where full military services will be conducted by the Ashland County Joint Veterans Council. Memorial contributions may be made to the Washington Township Fire Department.
