
William Sanford Emerson, age 74, of Mansfield, died Saturday evening at Winchester Terrace Nursing Home following a brief illness. Mr. Emerson was born July 26, 1925 in Mercer County, Ohio and has been an area resident most of his life. Mr. Emerson was retired from Saltzgaber Drilling Company, was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ, Mansfield Masonic Lodge #35 F.&A.M., Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Baku Grotto, Amvets Post #26, and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in W.W. II. Surviving are his wife, Doris Ream Emerson of Mansfield, one daughter and son-in-law, Lois Ann and Herb McCartney of Mansfield, one granddaughter, Wendy Kay Hillard of Mansfield, four great grandchildren, two brothers, John E. Emerson of Forrest Park, Georgia and Robert O. Emerson of Mansfield, Ohio: eight sisters, Betty Perry of Mansfield, Mabel Jordan of Wooster, Ohio, Daisy Hardy, Gladys Maxhimer, Martha Robertson, Miriam Moore, Rhea Hall and Patricia Chelski all of Mansfield, three step children; Rick and Piper Ream of Mansfield, Brian and Lecia Ream of Mansfield, Karen and Steve Hagerman of Lorain, Ohio, and seven step grandchildren. Also surviving are thirty one nieces and nephews and special friends, Bill and Maxine Stuchell. Mr. Emerson was preceded in death by his parents, Russell O. and Miriam Shultz Emerson, his first wife Betty and one son, Russell Earl Emerson, one grandson, Shawn McCartney. Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Tuesday October 26, 1999 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where services will be held on Wednesday October 27, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. conducted by Pastor Robert O'Brien. Burial with military rites will be held in Mansfield Memorial Park . Mansfield Masonic Lodge #35 will hold services Tuesday evening at 8:30p.m..Memorial contributions may be made to St. Johns United Church of Christ.
