

William 'Bo' George Francis Heltz, 72, of Mansfield, died Monday evening, November 22, 2004 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. He was born July 5, 1932, in Hempstead, Long Island, New York to John and Theresa V. Lee Heltz and moved to Ohio at age 15 with his mother. He attended St. Ignatius Catholic School and Hicksville High School. Bill was a member of the 1949 Championship football squad at Mifflin High School and was selected to the All-High football team in his league. He graduated from Otterbein College, playing football for four years. He taught Physical Education and Health at Fairview Park School in Cleveland for three years, Newark schools for one year, then moved to Mansfield where he taught Physical Education at Raemelton Schools, Johnny Appleseed, and Malabar Middle School where he retired from 6 years ago. He was a member of the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and is on the 'Wall of Honor' in Nassau County, New York. He received a Korean Service Medal with three stars, UN Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Purple Heart.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marlene Harris Heltz, whom he married November 22, 1957; two daughters, Cynthia Heltz of Mansfield and Theresa DeBiasi of Ronkonkoma, New York; two sons, William 'Victor' Heltz of Mansfield and Anthony Christine Heltz of Sunbury; brother, Thomas R. Heltz of Bethpage, New York; grandchildren, Michael J. Heltz, Gretchen Finnegan, Amber Finnegan, all of Mansfield, Kevin A. Heltz of Sunbury, Nichole and Danielle DeBiasi of Ronkonkomo; great-grandchildren, Bodyn Heltz and Mia Heltz, of Mansfield; special friends, Lisa and Brianna Garvin of Mansfield; and many teachers and friends in the Mansfield City School system. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kevin Michael Heltz; infant daughter, Linda Ann Heltz; brother, John Heltz; and sister-in-law, Lou Heltz.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Friday, November 26 from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the ALS Foundation.
