
William was born May 20, 1918 in Kirby, Ohio to Jerome and Clara Dunishbaugh Thiel. Bill has lived and worked in Mansfield since the late 1940's. He retired from Gorman Rupp Industries in 1982 after 21 years in the assembly department. He was a member of Amvets Post 9943 and AARP. Bill served his country proudly as an Army staff sergeant in WWII. He was a member and attended Resurrection Parish.
Bill married the love of his life, Effie Hemmerly, in 1950 and was devoted to her for their 52 years of marriage. Bill had no children, but the 3 generations of nieces and nephews brought joy to his life as he did for theirs. Uncle Bill had a special place in all their hearts and he treasured his time with them.
William was preceded in death by his wife Effie, and four brothers, Edmond, Robert, Donald, and his twin brother, Willis. He is survived by brother and sisters-in-law, Eldon and Jo Nelson, John and Arlene Crooks, and sisters-in-law Evelyn Thiel, Peg Thiel, and Dorothy Cornely.
Friends may call at the Ontario home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Mansfield, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, January 15 with a Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted by Father Nelson Beaver at Resurrection Parish at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 16 followed by military services conducted by the Richland County Joint Veteran's Burial Detail. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Kirby, Ohio at 1:00 p.m. Saturday conducted by Father Robert Dendinger.
