Sergeant Andrew John LeBeau passed away in Tucson, Arizona, on February 24, 2025. Andrew joined the United States Air Force in 2002 after being compelled to serve and protect his country in response to the events on September 11, 2001. At that time, Andrew was attending Onondaga Community College and participating in ROTC at Syracuse University. Earning a rank of Master Sergeant, he served in the Air Force and National Guard until being honorably discharged in 2016. During his time on active duty, Andrew specialized in explosive ordnance disposal, completing two tours of duty in the Middle East. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his exceptionally meritorious service during deployment in Afghanistan, where, at significant personal risk, he approached an unexploded rocket lodged in the doorway of a girls’ school and removed it for disposal allowing the children to safely return. Although an explosive counter-charge to destroy the rocket was the least risk to him, doing so would have had a lasting negative impact on the local residents. We are eternally grateful to Andrew for his service and dedication to our country.
Andrew was born on March 1, 1982, in Syracuse, New York. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Liguori Murphy, Mary Murphy, Edward LeBeau and Mary (LeBeau) Rice; and his aunts and uncles, Jane and John Sharrow, Tom LeBeau and Robert Murphy.
He is survived by his daughter, Amelie LeBeau; his parents, Alice and John LeBeau; his siblings, Jessica (Andrew) Mead, Jason (Marcia) LeBeau, Elizabeth (Christopher) Levatino and Adam LeBeau; and his nieces and nephews, Kayla, Alex, Allison, Olivia and Jason.
A beloved father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, Andrew was known for his patriotism, generosity and infectious smile. He was passionate about healthy living, the great outdoors and, most of all, helping others. Time with his family and friends always came first, from watersports to board games. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A funeral mass for Sergeant Andrew LeBeau will be held on March 21 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 415 Hamilton St., Ogdensburg, NY 13669. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to programs supporting veterans, such as the Wounded Warrior Project or Horses Healing Hearts WNY, in memory of Andrew.
