David Black

2-3-1952 - 1-30-2021

David Black was born February 3, 1952 in Denver, CO at St Joseph Hospital.  He passed away January 30, 2021 after a long, hard fought battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife Carol, his children, Tyler, Jessica (Christopher Kohlback), his two grandsons Cooper and Cashen, brothers John (Joan), Norm (Glee), many in-laws, nieces and nephews and friends, all who love and miss him.

David was the youngest of three boys born to Norm and Doris Black. He grew up in East Denver.  He attended Montclair Elementary, Hill Jr High and graduated from George Washington High in 1970. He attended Northeastern Jr College in Sterling, CO for a year.

His first job as a youth was as a cook at A&W Root Beer on East Colfax. That’s where he and his bride to be, Carol, met. She was 15 and working as a car hop at the time. David and Carol started dating and getting serious a couple years later. On August 18, 1973 they were married at St James Catholic Church. David was 21 and Carol was 19. David and Carol were together until the night he passed, 47 ½ years later.

When he returned to Denver after college, he began working in construction. He started out doing framing and as time passed, he became a skilled craftsman, all through hard work, dedication and a desire to be the best. He spent a lot of time in his younger days, restoring old homes throughout historic Denver. He eventually started his own business, David Black Builder. He spent a lifetime working hard and never did retire but worked until he was too ill to work anymore.

He had a deep love and respect for our beautiful Rocky Mountains. He loved to fish, hike, climb, camp and be one with nature. One summer he and his dear friend, John, walked the Continental Divide from Berthoud to Aspen. This was a source of great pride. He was a great tennis player and later in life fell in love with the game of golf. He tried to play every Sunday, weather permitting.

His greatest joy in life was his family, especially his two grandbabies.

The world is upside down right now in so many ways. His family would love to be together with all those who loved him to celebrate his life. In a safer time, hopefully this summer, there will be a gathering to share the joy of knowing and loving David.
