Benjamin Houghton Graham passed away peacefully after a short illness on Sunday, August 19, 2012, at the Williamson Seton Hospital.
Houghton was the second son born to Corbett and Jalina (Green) Graham. He was born in Burnet, Texas on September 30, 1930. Houghton is preceded in death by both his parents and his two brothers, Dempsey and Taylor.
Houghton graduated from Marble Falls High School and lived his entire life in the Marble Falls area. He was a master clock and watch repairman, worked for the Marble Falls school district as a bus driver and worked as a carpenter when needed. Houghton was a talented, self-taught musician who played the guitar, piano, fiddle and mandolin. Houghton, his father and brothers were always ready to play music, and on many a weekend they were joined by other family members making up an impromptu band.
Houghton is survived by cousins on his mother’s side of the family: Emma Moore of Lake Worth, Sue Levingston of Azle, Betty Barker of Georgetown, Mary Katherine Lunday of Alvin, and Truman Curtis Green of Tallahassee, Florida. Cousins on Houghton’s father’s side of the family include Elberta Holloway Faubion of Marble Falls, Louise Holloway Smith of San Antonio, Eulala Holloway Bell of Houston, Beverly Farmer Clement of Pleasanton, William Calvin Farmer of New Braunfels, and Darlene Farmer Oostermeyer of Marble Falls. Other cousins include Vernon Farmer Jr., Drake Farmer and Sharon Farmer Morrison of Austin, and Deborah Farmer Bretz of San Antonio and cousins Alan Edwards and Bonnie Edwards from Missouri.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Fairland Cemetery with Brother Max Copeland officiating.
Houghton resided the last six years of his life at Northwood Nursing Center and then Granite Mesa Nursing Facility. The family would like to thank all of those staff members for their care of Houghton during those years.
