Donald Earnest Smith, 84, of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, went to be with the Lord on April 9, 2024.
Donald was born in Jack County, Texas on February 19, 1940 to Earnest E. Smith & Hettie E. Rich.
In 1957 Donald enlisted in the United States Army. He went on to have a 12 year military career, proudly serving the 101st Airborne Division Screaming Eagles.
While home on leave, Donald met Sue Starr. It was love at first sight. The couple drove to Oklahoma to be married in 1958 before moving to Hawaii where they would be stationed for the next several years.
Donald and Sue were blessed with 2 beautiful children, Donald Mark & Sharon Suzette.
The Army moved the Smith family many places across the US; while welding for the United States Air Force, Donald’s family enjoyed life together on the island of Bermuda.
After his military discharge, Donald decided to follow his father’s footsteps into the construction industry. He built custom homes throughout Texas and Oklahoma for the following decade.
In 1985 he moved to Horseshoe Bay with his wife and daughter. He built over 120 homes in the Hill Country alone. He also spent time traveling the roads of West Texas & Oklahoma building Post Offices and other government buildings.
Donald had a passion for classic vehicles and eagerly planned for camping trips with his family. He loved his family dearly and spent every minute he could in their company.
Donald was a member of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas. He loved the Lord his Savior and looked forward to Sunday service followed by family supper and fellowship after church every week.
He was predeceased by his dearly loved grandmother, Olivia Rich; his parents, Ernest & Hettie Smith; and his brother, Charles Smith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Sue; his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Todd Still of Horseshoe Bay, TX; his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and April Smith of Marshall, OK; his grandchildren, Hannah, Savannah, and Taylor; as well as his cherished great-grandchildren, Vivian, Jackson, Fritz Donald, Edelweiss and Walker; and his brother, Ted Smith of Norman, OK.
In lieu of flowers, Donald would have appreciated any donations made to your local VA
