Faye Dockery, 90, a beloved and respected 50 year resident of Marble Falls, Texas, joined the Lord on Wednesday, February 18, 2015.
Faye was born August 19, 1924 in James, Texas, the 6th child of Perry Aaron and Annie Lester Aaron. She is survived by her son, Joe Don Dockery and wife Midge, granddaughters Devon Danielle Dockery and Hannah Jo Dockery, all of Marble Falls, Texas. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces, other relatives and close friends. She was preceded in death by all 10 of her siblings.
Faye married Joe Dockery August 27, 1949. She and Joe enjoyed 47 ½ years of a wonderful marriage until Joe’s passing in January 1997. Faye and Joe moved from east Texas to Austin in 1956 where Joe served as a Special Agent for Gulf Insurance Group and Faye work for the University of Texas Press. In 1965 Joe and Faye moved to Marble Falls where Joe bought the Burnam Insurance Agency and Faye was a stay at home mom raising their son.
Upon moving to Marble Falls, Faye became involved in the small community by immersing herself in the activities of the Parent Teacher Organization, the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts. She also taught a young people’s Sunday school class at the First Baptist Church of Marble Falls.
A longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi, Faye was instrumental in starting the sorority in Marble Falls and over the years, she served as president of several chapters. She was honored by her sorority four times as “Woman of the Year”, three times as their “Sweetheart”, and she received the sorority’s highest honor, “Order of the Rose”.
Perhaps her most arduous task was organizing the Civic Beautification Council, which took a great interest in helping make Marble Falls more beautiful and appealing. She was co-chairman of the Marble Falls Sesquicentennial Committee in 1986, to coincide with the state celebration. She was active in the Highland Lakes Garden Club and the Burnet County Historical Commission.
One of Faye’s most enjoyable ventures was her ownership of “The Ice Cream Machine”, a local homemade ice cream & gift shop she operated during the late 1970’s and early 1980’s.
She served the city as a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission, retiring from that board in 1989. Faye also served as a member of the Burnet County Long Range Planning Committee, the Burnet County Library Board, and the Highland Lakes Board of REALTORS©.
In the late 1980’s Faye started another career, this time in real estate sales. She incorporated her love of working with people into finding homes for them. She spent another 18 years working with NGD Real Estate and Colonial Real Estate until her retirement at the age of 82.
Faye was a very kind and gentle woman with strong family values. She was an extremely devoted wife, mother, and grandmother that will be sorely missed.
