Born in Gatesville, Texas, Glenda carried her small-town roots with her throughout her life. She loved sharing stories from her childhood, especially memories of growing up in Pearl, Texas with her grandparents. One phrase many will always remember her saying was, “Pack your patience.” She also loved quoting Winnie the Pooh and would often say, “Oh bother,” bringing a little humor and warmth to everyday moments. Another favorite saying of hers was, “Fake it till you make it,” advice she shared often with encouragement and a smile.
Glenda worked for 20 years as a correctional officer with TDCJ, where she formed many lifelong friendships. She often shared stories from her years working at the prison, stories that brought laughter, wisdom, and unforgettable memories to those around her.
She had a gift for making people feel welcome. Glenda never met a stranger and was always willing to help others however she could. She loved opening her home to family and friends, whether it was for a home-cooked meal, a game of dominoes, or simply good conversation around the table. She was an amazing cook, known for feeding everyone who walked through her door.
Glenda also loved gardening and created beautiful flower gardens everywhere she lived. She enjoyed collecting antiques and chicken décor, rescuing animals over the years, and spending time with the people she loved most. When it rained, she would always say “$20 bills were falling from the sky,” knowing the rain meant she would not have to spend money watering her beloved plants. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her great-grandson Jackson, who brought endless happiness to her life.
One of Glenda’s favorite television shows in the 1980s was The Love Boat, and for many years she dreamed of going on a cruise herself. Just one month before her passing, she was able to fulfill that lifelong dream, creating memories her family will always treasure.
She attended church for most of her life and carried strong values of kindness, generosity, and hospitality that touched so many people.
Glenda is survived by her daughter, Brandy Gorrell; granddaughter, Jaycee Miller and husband Drew Miller; great-grandson, Jackson Miller; niece, Laura Cox and husband Dustin Cox; great-niece, Caitlin Harris and husband Roddy Harris; and great-nephew, Tyler Cox.
She was preceded in death by her father, Grayson Lee; mother, Dorris Lee; and sister, Brenda Lee.
