James was one of two amazing sons born to Charlie (a butane truck driver) and Allie (a seamstress) Woods of Lamesa, TX. Despite his humble beginnings, James was a precocious child, as anyone who knew him would imagine. He studied accounting and business at Texas Tech and University of Oklahoma, before embarking on a remarkable career in the Federal Civil Service. He worked his way up from entry-level auditor to head positions in some of the most important government accounting and audit agencies, earning praise from everyone he worked with and numerous Presidential Awards for his management of multi-million dollar international financial agreements. During this time, he met and married his college sweetheart Pam, had daughter Veronica and grandchildren Grace and Ryan, lived all over the US, and made some of the best friends he could have hoped to find.
After taking an early retirement, James and Pam relocated to the Marble Falls area, where they began their “second career” building homes in Meadowlakes. This was a labor of love, as James found house building to be both challenging and fulfilling. They made wonderful friends over the years, from their contractors to suppliers to home buyers and neighbors. If you live in Meadowlakes, you probably know someone who lives in a home James and Pam built.
James was known for his inquisitive mind and was a true Renaissance man. He was constantly researching and learning, coming up with new ideas and solutions to problems, and anxious to try out new things. Most people who knew him thought of him as the “go-to” person when you had a dilemma or question that needed answering, because he seemed to know something about everything. Whether he was working on a computer, making stained glass, writing a proposal, doing floorplans, providing advice on building or financial matters, or so many other things, his intelligence and wealth of knowledge were unmatched. And yet his generosity and kindness were his greatest assets. He was the most giving person and would do anything for anyone - and usually you wouldn’t even have to ask. For these and so many other reasons, James will be truly missed by his loving family, his dear friends, and all those that he has touched over the years. May God bless you and watch over you as you have watched over all of us.
