Jeanine (Nini) Eleanor Usry Sorrels, 85, of Marble Falls, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2020 from natural causes. She was a confident lady, casual painter, bridge friend, fun neighbor, dedicated mother, doting grandmother, and committed wife. Her perspectives were open, honest and ahead of their time. She will be greatly missed.
Jeanine was born December 15, 1934, in Lake, Mississippi, the youngest of six siblings, to Edgar E. Usry and Inda Parker Usry.
She grew up in Jackson, Mississippi and attended Jones Business College. On December 3, 1955, she married Joseph Allen Sorrels, Jr. in Jackson, MS. Together they raised 4 children while residing Pensacola, FL, New Orleans, LA, and Dallas, TX, where she lived for 44 years. Typical of her mischievous and fun-loving nature, she convinced a famous New Orleans chef into giving her the recipe to her favorite vermicelli dish and it is now a highly prized and coveted family secret!
Nini is preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, and 4 of her siblings, Dorothy Jean Baker, Dewitt Usry, Ray Usry, and Merril Pickett. She is survived by her children, Inda Dell Sorrels Williams, Joseph Allen Sorrels III, Robert Wayne Sorrels and Stacy Jeanine Sorrels Goodwin, her grandchildren, Tyler Alan Williams, Dustin Lee Williams, Carla Michelle Sorrels Jones, Monica Cheryne Sorrels Vodrup, Jeana Elizabeth Sorrels Chapman, Leighton McKenzie Sorrels, Jackson Allen Goodwin and Grace Elizabeth Goodwin as well as 13 great grandchildren and her sister, Thelma Elizabeth Deyton.
Due to the current situation and crowd limitations, Nini’s celebration of life will be postponed until a later date when all can get together. We are currently celebrating her Heavenly welcome in our individual homes. Her burial will be held at the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery on April 9, 2020. Unfortunately, only family members will be able to attend and no flowers will be allowed.
