Alice “Joy” Rushing, age 91, passed away on Friday February 20, 2026 due to the progression of Multiple Myeloma. She was diagnosed with this form of cancer in 2023 and she fought a great fight.
Joy was born March 11, 1934 in Ozona, Texas to Charles and Estelle Preston. She met the love of her life, Charles “Sonny” Rushing in McCamey, Texas and they were married on February 28, 1953. She knew the first night of meeting him at the “honkey tonk” that he was who she was going to marry. They would have been married for 73 years as of February 2026. Sonny worked for HB Zachry and Joy followed him as they lived in several towns/cities in Texas, Puerto Rico and back to the states in Kingsland, TX where she told him they needed to plant roots for the children. She stayed in Kingsland to raise the kids while Sonny traveled every week back and forth to whatever project so he could be home weekends with the family. After Sonny’s death in 1997, Joy moved to Marble Falls in 2000 and lived there until her death.
She is survived by her children Brenda Conn, Bruce Rushing, and Pam who is married to Joey Soto, (11) grandkids, (17) great grandkids, and (1) great-great grandbaby. She is also survived by her brothers George Preston, Bobby Preston, and her sister Rowena Parks along with several wonderful nieces and nephews.
Joy was preceded in death by Sonny, her eldest son Ronald Rushing and his spouse Kathy, her mother Estelle Preston, father Charles Preston, sister Edna Smart and her spouse Doug, and brothers Marvin Ray Preston and his spouse Rose, Charles “Bud” Preston and his spouse Grace, and Hubert Preston and his spouse Lauretta as well as George Preston’s spouse Lavon, and Bobby Preston’s spouse Coy.
In lieu of flowers, Joy was a supporter of St. Jude’s.
A graveside service will be held at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park, located on Park Rd 4, Burnet, Texas, 78611. The service is scheduled for February 28, 2026, starting at 10:00 am.
