Laurie Anne Huffman Sherrod, born on September 14, 1956, in Jamestown, New York, transitioned to her eternal home on February 16, 2025, after a courageous and enduring battle with cancer. She was lovingly known to her family as Mimi—a beacon of light and love whose influence radiated in every corner of her world. Laurie’s life was marked by deep faith, boundless compassion, and an unwavering commitment to spreading kindness to all. She was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, a proud grandmother, a passionate educator, and an inspiring writer whose words and actions left an indelible mark on all who crossed her path.
While her passing leaves a heart-wrenching void, the legacy of her love, grace, and joy will forever endure. Laurie lived purposefully and enthusiastically, embracing each moment with a spirit that uplifted everyone she encountered. She taught us the true meaning of living fully, not by how many days we are given but by how we choose to make those days matter. Her legacy is not defined by her struggles in her final months but by the light she brought to every life she touched.
Laurie is survived by her beloved husband, Ray Sherrod of Horseshoe Bay; her father Joseph Huffman; brother David Huffman; sister Beth Huffman; daughter Mary Higby; son Scott Higby; stepson Jack Sherrod and wife Summer; and her cherished grandchildren Lennon, Levi, Willow, Braylee, Harrison, and Dean; step grandchildren Addison Sherrod, Aiden Sherrod and wife Vivian; great grandson Parker Inman. She was predeceased by her mother, Anne Huffman.
A passionate educator, Laurie dedicated her life to teaching and empowering others. Her joyful spirit and selfless generosity were evident in her work with students, teachers, and fellow administrators. Even after her retirement, Laurie continued to pour herself into her passions—creating beautiful works of art through sewing, tending to her garden, and above all, cherishing her family with ever-deepening love.
Laurie’s greatest joy came from being a guiding light in her grandchildren's lives. Whether through teaching them how to sew, sharing math lessons, or sparking a love for reading, she gave them the gift of wisdom and joy. Her family was always her top priority, and she infused every moment spent with them with laughter, learning, and love. Laurie’s joy in life extended beyond her family, as she and Ray spent years renovating historic homes, restoring them to their original glory with the same care and attention to detail that she gave to all of life’s endeavors.
In her quieter moments, Laurie found peace in swimming, curling up with a good book on her patio, and reflecting on the beauty of the world around her. Her life was a testament to the power of love, perseverance, and unwavering faith, and though we will miss her physical presence, her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us.
The Celebration of Life service in honor of Laurie Anne Huffman Sherrod will be on March 23, 2025 at the Caprock Pavilion in the Horseshoe Bay Resort located at 2655 Bay West Blvd, Horseshoe Bay, TX from 2pm-4pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Samaritan’s Purse, supporting disaster relief efforts in the name of Jesus. www.samaritanspurse.org
Laurie’s body may no longer walk among us, but her light will never fade. Her legacy of kindness, love, and compassion will live on in all of us, shining brightly in our hearts and inspiring us to carry her torch forward. As she continues to worship Jesus in heaven, we find comfort in knowing that her influence remains and her love endures forever etched in our lives. May we honor her memory by embodying the same spirit of generosity and faith she so beautifully lived.
