Melinda Elaine Beck Savage, passed from her earthly home to her heavenly home in the early morning of March 18th, 2023. She succumbed to her 6 year battle with pancreatic cancer, but we rest assured that she has won the ultimate war and is resting in peace with Jesus.
Born November 22, 1966 to Calvin Alfons Beck and Norma Carolyn Parker in Houston, TX. She attended Kindergarten in Bellaire, Houston. Her family moved to Dallas in 1972 where she attended 1st and 2nd grade. There, her dad was an accountant and her mom taught Elementary school.
Melinda’s parents decided they wanted to raise her in a small town, and they settled on Marble Falls. Calvin opened a Radio Shack franchise and Carolyn continued to teach school. They moved to a house on Lake LBJ where Melinda enjoyed swimming, boating, skiing and fishing with friends. She also took tap and ballet classes as a young girl. Her mother, being a skilled pianist herself, tried to interest Melinda in piano, but she just wouldn’t have it. Melinda always said she regretted not learning how to play.
Melinda attended the elementary, junior high, and high school in Marble Falls. She loved school and always excelled at her work. She had lots of friends and she enjoyed sports in her younger years, including basketball and tennis. She played the clarinet in the junior high band and she was always involved in cheerleading. She especially loved football season! She also enjoyed student government- student council and class officer positions. She enjoyed summer camps and visiting her cousins and grandparents during the summers.
Growing up, her family attended the First Methodist Church, which was right next to the high school back then. Her mother Carolyn was always involved in the church and instilled a love for Jesus in Melinda from a young age.
Melinda met Mike, the love of her life during her freshman year in high school and it was sort of scandalous because at the time, Mike was already out of high school. He attended all of her high school events, all of the football games, and every dance and prom. Melinda was voted Prom Princess her junior year and Prom Queen her senior year. She was also a part of the homecoming court her senior year.
Melinda graduated high school in 1985 as Valedictorian. She was awarded a scholarship to the University of Texas at Austin where she studied pre-pharmacy. She was married to Mike in January 1989 in Marble Falls at the First Baptist Church by Brother Max Copeland. She then entered UT Pharmacy School where she graduated in 1991. Melinda and Mike bought their 1st home in Pflugerville, TX and shortly after became pregnant with Crockett in 1992. They decided to move back to Marble Falls and settle there. Melinda took a job with Walmart Pharmacy and Mike started his business Lone Star Electric. Crockett was born December of 1992 and then they had Sarah in July of 1995. Soon after, they built a new house in Smithwick and lived on that property for 6 years before building the same house they live in now in Tobeyville.
After working at Walmart as a pharmacist, she moved to Bowens Pharmacy in Kingsland for a several years before deciding to take a job at Atkins Pharmacy in 2002. Melinda worked at Atkins for almost 20 years, and continued to go in and work as she could even after her cancer diagnosis in 2017. She truly loved her career as a pharmacist in the community and was blessed with a wonderful employer, coworkers, and patients. She was even honored to be voted “Best Pharmacist” several years in a row in the town newspaper. She saw her job as a blessing.
Melinda’s hobbies throughout the years have varied but she always enjoyed time with girlfriends, whether it was shopping, eating good food, or doing countless bible studies. She enjoyed learning to sew and made lots of bags, purses, and crafts over the years. She also absolutely loved horses! She always told us she will live on a horse ranch in heaven, with stunning horses, bulldogs, and lots of turquoise jewelry!
Melinda was always a rock for her family through different ailments, health issues, and tragedies. She was an amazing caretaker for her mother while she was in Gateway Gardens assisted living up until she passed away in December of 2020. Her faith always shined through and she was a pillar for not only her family, but friends, and others she met as well.
Melinda was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in June 2017. She had whipple surgery along with 6 months of chemo from 2017-2018. She had many complications which led to interventions including a revision to her original whipple surgery in 2019. She continued to try and work part time until it became too difficult. After retiring, her and Mike began building Two Rooster Ranch RV Park on their property, opening the gates in August 2019.
Her son Crockett and his wife Jeni who married in October of 2017 had her precious grandaughter, Emmi Lou Savage, in December 2019. Followed not long after by a beautiful grandson Boone in September of 2021. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She was able to attend Sarah and husband Nolan Aparicio’s wedding in August of 2022, and was looking forward to meeting their twins due May 8th, 2023.
Melinda was many things, including a loyal and devoted wife of 34 years, a caring and supportive mother, a fun-loving Momo to her grandchildren, a great friend to many, a light of hope to those who needed it, and most of all a disciple of Christ. She took all of her roles seriously and moved through life with grace and kindness. She will be missed on earth, but we know her new role as guardian angel is just beginning. We look forward to meeting her again.
Melinda was preceded in death by father, Calvin Alfons Beck and her mother Norma Carolyn Parker Beck. Her father-in-law, Glenn Anthony Savage, uncles Charles Beck and Marvin Beck and aunt, Sandra Parker Cole, brothers-in-law Glenn Savage, Jr., Rick Savage and Phil Savage.
