Odin Brian Jeffery Rice, dearly known as "OB" and "The Little Viking", passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 26th, 2022. He was born on November 13th, 2020 to parents Christian and Morgan Rice, their first and only child.
"OB" was a vibrant, playful, inquisitive, rambunctious, and affectionate toddler. He adored his mother and delighted in his father. He was doted on by his devoted grandparents and cared for by many in his community. His two stuffed puppies, both lovingly named Woofie, were his most treasured possessions and were always by his side. When he wasn't watching his favorite show, "Cocomelon", his pastimes included climbing on the couch, chasing (crawling) after his parents, floor play, or playing ukulele with his mother.
Odin was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia with RAM phenotype, a very rare and aggressive form of cancer, in mid January 2022. Communities from around the country rallied to support him and his family, and he became known as "The Little Viking." Throughout his illness, Odin maintained his high-spirited personality. His doctors and nurses often remarked at how cheerful and energetic he was, despite whatever pain or discomfort he most certainly experienced. He shocked staff at times with his incredible ability to soothe or calm himself during high-stress moments, considering his very young age. Odin and his parents became a fast-favorite among the nursing and care team, whom they came to love and will remember fondly.
Odin is survived by his parents, Christian and Morgan, and his grandparents, Brian and Jena Wellinghoff, and Conrad and Susan Rice. He will also be sorely missed and survived by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and great-grandparents, as well as countless others of whom his life or story has touched.
There will be two memorial services held in Odin's honor on Saturday, June 25th, 2022 in Marble Falls, TX. A funeral Mass will be held at 8:30 a.m. at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church followed by a Celebration of Life memorial service at 10:00 a.m. at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home. A reception will be hosted at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in the P.A.C. meeting hall. All who wish to join are welcome.
