Raymond Mart Tomlinson, 83, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023 in Austin, TX, following a lengthy illness. He was a gentle and kind man with a fighting spirit to live—staying with us until his body grew weary and he was called home.
Mart was born and raised on the Panhandle Plains of Amarillo, TX to loving parents Howard and Maxene Tomlinson. He attended Amarillo High School where he played two years of football as a defensive tackle, graduating in 1958. He then went on to attain his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from University of Texas at Austin. Mart then returned to Amarillo, where he met the love of his life, Nita, and they were married in 1964. Several years later their daughter Cara was born. She was the light of his life, and in turn Cara adored her father.
Most of Mart’s career was spent working in the Texas oil & gas industry as an ad valorem tax consultant and settled in Katy, TX in 1976 while working for Gulf Oil Company and then Chevron, from which he retired in 1993. Mart and Nita moved to Meadowlakes, TX in 1998 to enjoy their retirement years alongside good friends. Mart was an active Mason with the local Blazing Star Masonic Lodge in Marble Falls where he cherished time spent with his fellow Mason brothers. Also an avid golfer, he enjoyed spending almost every weekend out on the course while his body was still able, before health issues began to interfere with his golf game.
Mart was preceded in death by his father, Howard Tomlinson, and mother, Maxene Tomlinson. He is survived by his beautiful wife of almost 59 years, Nita Tomlinson, and daughter, Cara Tomlinson. He is also survived by his younger brother, Kent Tomlinson (Cathe-Mae); nephew Wade Tomlinson (Lacey) and great-niece, Olive Tomlinson, and many other caring family members and friends — all of whom he adored. Mart will be dearly missed by all.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Marble Falls. A reception for family and friends will precede services on Monday, March 27, 2023 at 12:30 pm in the First United Methodist Church, Marble Falls, with Funeral Services to immediately follow at 2:00pm. Burial to follow at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Burnet.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mart’s honor to the Blazing Star Masonic Lodge #413 in Marble Falls, or to a charity of your choice.
