Robert Rudolph Carruth, known affectionately as Bob or Bobby, passed away on August 29, 2025, at the age of 79. Born in McComb, Mississippi, Bob built a life full of love, faith, family, and accomplishment, making his home in Lafayette, Louisiana; Houston, Texas; and Horseshoe Bay, Texas.
Bob was a man of brilliance and quiet strength. After graduating from the University of Mississippi in 1969 with a degree in Civil Engineering, he dedicated 56 years to the oil and gas industry, shaping projects across the Gulf of Mexico, the North Sea, West Africa, and beyond. In 1982, he founded the Engineering Corporation of Louisiana (ECL), where he earned recognition as a leader in offshore engineering design and project management. He continued to serve as President and General Manager until his passing, and his professional legacy lives on through the company he built.
But Bob was far more than his career. He was an avid fisherman, a graceful dancer, and a self-taught musician who could play the banjo and guitar by ear. He found joy on the tennis court and peace in the garden, where his thriving plants were admired by all. Together with his wife, Emma Jeanne, he was also an active member of the Krewe of Victoria Mardi Gras Krewe in Lafayette, LA where they built lifelong friendships.
To his family and friends, Bob was “one of a kind.” A man of few but always funny words, he was selfless, generous, and wise. He lived simply, but gave abundantly — of his time, resources, and love. He devoted his life to providing for his family, supporting his employees, and sharing his wisdom with all who knew him.
Bob leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Emma Jeanne Freeman Carruth; his son, Robert Cavan Carruth, daughter-in-law Kate Bowie Carruth, and grandson Hayes Bowie Carruth of Dripping Springs, Texas; and his daughter, Lori Jeanne Carruth Gonzalez, son-in-law Ramiro Gonzalez Jr., and granddaughters Bobbi Penelope Gonzalez and Stevie Hope Gonzalez of Spring, Texas. He is also survived by his nephews, Neal Carruth, William Carruth, and James Carruth. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Marguerite Connelly Carruth, and his brothers, Edwin Ronald and William Connelly Carruth.
A visitation will be held from 5:00–7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Marble Falls, Texas. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the Church at Horseshoe Bay. All who knew and loved Bob are invited to attend and honor the legacy of a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed.
