

Samuel Curtis Oliphant, died on February 6, 2013, at the age of 96. He leaves behind a legacy of professional and personal accomplishments. Born on November 9, 1916 in Harrisonburg, LA, he moved to Texas where he attended the University of Texas, receiving a BS in Petroleum Engineering in 1938 and an MS in Petroleum Engineering in 1941.
He pursued a distinguished career as a petroleum engineer, serving as a senior vice president of Tenneco. After retirement Sam continued to consult in the industry.
He collected and restored antique cars and was active in The Horseless Carriage Club of America for many years. In later years he enjoyed life with his friends and family on Lake LBJ where he was known as the one who could fix anything.
Sam was predeceased by his wife Lillian Patterson Oliphant, grandson Shawn Oliphant, and second wife Alice Jane Redmon Oliphant.
Sam is survived by his wife of 15 years, Jane Oliphant; his son, Stephen Oliphant and his wife Linda; his daughter, Connie Welsch and her husband Andy and a sister Mollie Oliphant. He also leaves a legacy of 4 grandchildren: Shannon Gordon, Samantha Fisher, Glenn Welsch, Allison Reimers and 8 great grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at the Church at Horseshoe Bay, 600 Hi Ridge Rd, Horseshoe Bay, TX on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at 2:00 PM with Pete Christy officiating.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Church at Horseshoe Bay.
