Dave was born on September 9, 1937, in Los Angeles, California, to Paul and Marion (Frye) Forker. He attended K-11 schools in Denver, Colorado, and completed high school in Webster Groves, Missouri. After graduating, he attended Drury College, where he majored in mathematics. During his college years, he ran track, was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, and served as editor of the school paper. Dave was also a proud veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.
After college, Dave held a variety of jobs in the St. Louis area before becoming an actuary. On June 1, 1963, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Ann) Woody, in St. Louis, Missouri, and soon relocated to Simsbury, Connecticut, to begin his family and his career with Travelers Insurance Company.
In 1973, Dave moved his family to Libertyville, IL, where he continued his actuarial career with Allstate, Coopers & Lybrand, Shand Morahan & Co., and ultimately completed his career with Markel Corporation.
He cherished spending time with his family and five grandchildren. Dave was an active volunteer with Libertyville Little League, Libertyville Boys Club Football, and the Greater Libertyville Soccer Association, Libertyville Mainstreet and Habitat for Humanity. He could always be found supporting his children’s activities—whether behind the plate, on the soccer field, or in the stands. When not in Libertyville, Dave enjoyed his winter home in Marco Island, FL.
He was a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (AAA), Libertyville Methodist Church, and Marco Island Methodist Church, and held a variety of volunteer positions at the South Sea Club and South Seas East in Marco Island.
Dave was a gentle, kind soul whose everyday actions provided a steady, comforting presence. His compassion extended far beyond his family, touching friends, neighbors, and all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
As a father, he was patient, devoted, and endlessly caring. He led by example, teaching the importance of empathy, integrity, and putting others first. His love was constant and unconditional—a foundation his family will forever cherish.
He found joy in life’s simple moments and took immense pride in his family, who meant everything to him. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the love he shared, and the countless memories that will be cherished always.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. Though our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the many years we were blessed to share with him, and for a life so beautifully lived.
Dave is survived by his son, John (Kim) Forker of Lindenhurst, IL; his daughter, Sue (Kevin) Smith of Cicero, IN; five grandchildren, Brandon (Cortney) Forker, Morgan Forker, Nick, Katie, and Lizzy Smith; his sister, Sally (Steve) Lee; and several cousins across the United States.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, and his beloved wife of 55 years, Elizabeth (Ann) Forker.
A celebration of Dave’s life is planned for a later date.
