Peter Arcidiacono, 72, of Marco Island FL, formerly of New Jersey, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2023. Pete was a people person and had many friends. He made new friends easily and had many lifelong buddies. Well-liked by many, people have described him as being as one of the kindest, nicest people they know.
Pete was born in Kearny, NJ and graduated Kearny High School in 1970. He enjoyed wrestling during his high school years. He obtained a baccalaureate degree in marketing from the University of Bridgeport, CT. After college his most notable employment was working for Michelin Tires Corporation and eventually fulfilling a dream to own his own business. He co-owned C & C Tires, an industrial tire company in East Rutherford, NJ for several years. He retired in 2000.
Pete loved fishing and hunting. He belonged to Catamount Lake Club in upstate NY for over 30 years. Pete always said he wanted to live where he played. In 2002, he and his wife Patty visited Marco Island and like so many other Marco Islanders they fell in love with it, buying a house here that same year.
Although Pete’s favorite activities were fishing and hunting, he embraced fishing with all his heart. Once on Marco he obtained his captain license and bought the first of many boats. Although Pete belonged to several Marco Island organizations, he loved, loved, loved the Marco Sportfishing Club. He was president of the Club for 9 years and was responsible for initiating some of the activities that are still in place today. He liked belonging to the fishing community and Capt. Pete repaired many rods and reels for anglers over the years. He freely gave advice to all who fished.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Frank Arcidiacono, sister, Catherine Mills, brother, Frank Arcidiacono, and by his nieces, Vanessa Windle and Skylar Giorgio. Surviving is his wife, Patricia (Patty) of 44 years, his sister-in-law, Ginger (Steve) Anderson; brother-in-laws, Gene Kelly and Tom Kelly; nieces, Karen (John) Siegel and Carly Anderson; nephews, Frank Mills, Joe (Cheryl) Mills, Sean Anderson, Michael (Jessica) Anderson, Patrick Anderson, and the “California Arci’s”: niece, Teresa Arcidiacono Dominguez and nephews, Anthony Arcidiacono and Frank Arcidiacono. He is also survived by great nieces and nephews: Allison (Matt) Giorgio, Jessica (Joe) Machinshok, Julia Mills, Kaylee Anderson, Thomas Windle and Joe Mills; and great great nephew and niece, Justin and Lucia.
Pete will be sorely missed by his wife Patty, family and the many, many friends who loved him. A Gathering of Family & Friends will be held on October 14, at Hodges-Josberger Funeral Home on 577 E. Elkcam Circle, Marco Island, FL from 3:00-5:00 pm with a Celebration of Life service at 5:00 pm. Black attire is not necessary.
