

Shirley Marie Piercy, 93, of Marco Island, formerly of New Jersey passed away peacefully on October 1, 2023. She was predeceased by her first husband, Harry Grant Carlsen, her second husband, Raymond Arthur Piercy and her only sibling, Alvin Brown.
She is survived by her two daughters, Cathleen DeFeo of Marco Island and Sharon Piercy of Pocono Lakes, PA , two sons, Matthew Jay of Hiram, GA and Christopher Adam of Dunmore, PA and one stepson, Frank Piercy.
Shirley was grandmother to seven grandchildren and the great grandmother to thirteen great grandchildren.
Shirley was a direct descendant of George Clinton, Founding Father, Governor of NY, General in the Revolutionary War and twice Vice President of the United States 1805-1812. Shirley was an avid swimmer that included synchronized swimming and for many years volunteered at the YMCA in Ridgewood, NJ teaching swimming lessons to the handicapped. Shirley was also a talented watercolor artist that had studied under many notable artists in the greater NY area.
After moving to Marco Island in 1992 she was actively involved with the Art League of Marco Island, where she displayed many of her watercolor paintings. She was accepted in many jury shows in Florida, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and has won many awards. Shirley’s paintings hang in many states as well as England, France and Germany.
Shirley was beloved by her family and by her many past and present friends in the Marco Island area, especially at Eagle Cay where she taught water aerobics classes for the past 30 years, her presence at the pool will be greatly missed.
