

Thomas E. Murphy of Marco Island, Florida, formally of Bloomfield, New Jersey passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on July 13, 2012; two days shy of his 76th birthday. He was born July 15, 1936 in Red Hook, Brooklyn where his fondest childhood memories were made. He attended school at St. Mary Star of the Sea. While attending high school, he began working in the mail room of Marine Transport Lines in New York at the age of 15 and remained working in the maritime industry until his death, 60 years later. He did, however enlist in the army spending two years in Germany and returned to MTL upon his discharge. He received countless awards and recognitions throughout his illustrious career especially in Labor/Management relations. Most recently he was honored at the New York Athletic Club, April of 2012, by the Seafarers & International House. He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy of Marco Island, his loving children Tom of Huntington Beach, California, Dori (Joe) Padovano of Ramsey, New Jersey, and four adoring grandchildren, Jill Jackie, Joey and Jeff Padovano. He is also survived by his two brothers, John Murphy of Queens, New York and Robert Murphy of Boynton Beach, Florida. He was predeceased by his parents Tom and Anne Murphy, his sister Anne Gallagher, and his first wife Dorothy Murphy. A memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday August 11, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at San Marco Catholic Church .
