

He was a graduate of Hendersonville High School in Hendersonville, NC. Benny graduated from Mars Hill University with an Associate Degree and from North Carolina State University with a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering. Benny was married in 1957 to his high school sweetheart, Carol Ann Pace Helton (born 1936, died June 2019).
With a dedicated spirit and strong work ethic, Benny enjoyed successful careers in various industries:

Lockheed Structural Design Engineer, 1966-1969, C-5A Galaxy Military Transport Aircraft, Marietta, GA
Helton Homes, Home Builder and Developer in East Cobb, 1970-1980, President State of Georgia, National Association of Home Builders
The Salad Factory, Owner with wife, Carol, 1972-2004, President and Founder of the National Association of Fresh Produce Processors
Benny never met a stranger. He was kind and compassionate in all areas of his life. In his spare time, he enjoyed league bowling with Carol, gardening, reading, Wii bowling, and spending time with family and friends.
Benny is preceded in death by his wife, Carol, and son-in-law, Alan Varnadoe.
He is survived by daughters, Dana Helton and Tracey Hagin (Joe); son, Todd Helton (Susan); sisters, Treva Johnson, Kaye Johns, Rita Whalen, and Dawn Powell; grandchildren, Lauren Hagin, Avery Hagin (Jordan), Ben Helton, and Will Helton; and great-grandchildren, Andromeda Hagin and Calliope Hagin.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 21, 2023 at 11:00 AM, at H.M. Patterson & Son-Canton Hill Chapel, 1157 Old Canton Road NE, Marietta, GA 30068. He will lie in repose an hour prior to the service. A private, family graveside service will be held after the service.
