Bruce Douglas Morgan, age 77, of Canton, GA passed away on August 10th, 2024. Bruce is preceded in death by his parents, Murray and Sylvia Morgan, and devoted companion, Barbara Weaver. He is survived by his daughter, Dorothy Morgan, son-in-law, Sam Wilburn, and loving partner, Donna Hagy.
Bruce was born in 1947 to Sylvia (née Brown) and Murray Morgan. He attended the University of Miami for a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, and he earned a Masters in International Program and Project Management. He was retired from Lucent Technologies and worked as a telecommunications manager. He also earned a Purple Heart for a wound he received while serving his country, and was a member of the American Legion.
Bruce led a remarkable life, filled with diverse interests and passions. His love for running took him through multiple marathons and half-marathons in his younger years. After receiving his first of five cancer diagnoses in 2002, he returned to running, raising funds for Leukemia and Lymphoma research with Team in Training. Cooking was another of his joys with specialties like shrimp scampi, chicken piccata, and baby back ribs. He had an adventurous palate, always eager to try new dishes and rarely leaving leftovers behind. His travels spanned the globe – for both business and pleasure – but he also enjoyed staying close to home, playing the guitar and singing in his living room. He genuinely enjoyed spending time with family and friends, never met a stranger, and used his great sense of humor to bring laughs and smiles to those around him. His athletic prowess extended beyond running. Basketball, football, baseball, tennis, and golf all captured his interest. As a sports enthusiast, he followed UGA football, the Atlanta Braves, tennis and golf majors, and every Olympic event. He also had a soft spot for dogs, with Max, Morgan, Muffin, Sundae, Maple, Mocha, Oreo, and Pumpkin all stealing portions of his heart. And then there was Disney—the magical place that held a special spot in his heart. From visiting Disneyland with his parents as a young adult to taking his own family to Disney World countless times, he cherished those moments of wonder and joy.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, 8/18/24 at H.M. Patterson & Son-Canton Hill Chapel (1157 Old Canton Road NE Marietta, GA 30068), with a light reception to follow.
