Carol Frances Stephens of Dallas, Georgia passed away peacefully on 7/31/25 at the age of 85. Carol was born on January 5th, 1940, in Berwyn, Ill. to Norman L. and Marcia Stephens. She was a beloved sister, parent, grandparent and friend whose warmth, kindness, and generosity touched the lives of all who knew her.
Carol stayed home and raised her two children, Dean and Amy, throughout their school years providing a stable and loving home for them as well as spiritual guidance.
Throughout her life, Carol was known for her relationship with Jesus and her calling to make Him known to others. After both her children married, she spent 25+ years on the mission field, the majority of that time in the mountains of the Dominican Republic where she lived with and mentored the residents in the small community of Mata De Limon in the Manabao region, learning fluent Spanish. She led the opening and running of a preschool for the children of the community where they would receive an education and hear the good news of the Gospel of Jesus. She was also instrumental in overseeing the translation of an existing curriculum for schools into the Spanish language to be used throughout the world.
Carol is survived by her son Dean Hawkinson (Angie) of Dallas, Ga. and daughter Amy Serokee (Steve) of Jacksonville, Fl., grandchildren Kelsey Hawkinson, Cameron Hawkinson and Avery Serokee, sister Peggy Golden and brother Norman L. Stephens, Jr. (Laurie) and preceded in death by father Norman L. Stephens, Sr. and mother Marcia Weymouth Stephens.

2 Cor 4:16-18 – Therefore, we do not lose heart, though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
In lieu of flowers, tax-deductible donations can be made by check in her name to Pimentel Project, Inc. (the organization that oversees the preschool at El Shaddai that Carol started in the Dominican Republic) noting her name and “Taller de Eli” (the school name) in the memo:
