David Babbit, of Marietta, passed away peacefully after a courageous journey through illness. Born in Jacksonville Beach, FL in February of 1947, he was the beloved son of the late Reverend Harry L. Babbit and Sarah M. Babbit.
Throughout his life, David was known for his steady presence, kind heart, and devotion to his family and his faith. He earned a degree in Political Science from The University of the South (Sewanee), and you would never see him without his treasured class ring. He enjoyed a long career in management, where dear friends affectionately gave him the title of “poptologist.” Even in retirement, David was seldom seen without a collared shirt or polo, as the southern gentleman he was.
“Pops” had a quiet strength that brought comfort to those around him and fostered lasting friendships. Above all else, he loved his family and found his greatest joy in time spent together, especially cheering on his grandchildren at their many sporting events.
He is survived by his brother, Harry (Mary) Babbit Jr.; his children, Carter Babbit; Kate and Michael Williams; and Molly and Tom Karry; and his cherished grandchildren, Mason, Miller, and Myers Williams, and Hudson and Hadley Karry. He now joins his beloved wife, Teresa Babbit, with whom he shared nearly 43 years of marriage.
A faithful husband, devoted father and grandfather, and loyal friend, David will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held at The Episcopal Church of St. Peter and St. Paul (Marietta) on June 18, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. with interment in the Memorial Garden, and a reception immediately following in the Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Episcopal Church of St. Peter and St. Paul.
