I will always hold a special place in my heart for Don. He was one of kind. I think of him often and especially in the last 2 years have been replaying memories of our times together.  Love you Emmer.

It is obvious from the many memories shared that Don was a man of great integrity, humor and kindness.  Suzy, I am so sorry for your loss, and there are many who stand ready to help you and your family in any way  needed.  I'd like to think Don is scratching behind the ears of your precious Lily as he watches over you all. Don will be dearly missed.

Don ”The Bird” “Emmer” Emig was his name. I named him “The Bird” after watching his mannerism on the slow pitch mound. He reminded me of Mark “The Bird” Fidrych, of the Detroit Tigers. “Rock n’ Fire, Bird” could be heard from The News at 3rd base. He would fire back “ Get ready News, she’s coming your way!” We had so many laughs and such great times back then and, despite our antics, managed to win a few games.

A sense of humor is a God given gift. You can’t force it.  Don definitely was blessed with it.  “Bird” was well known for his hilarious impersonations.   One in particular he did that was so damn funny was when he did his impression of the maintenance crew Don “worked” with while a student at Rockhurst College.  Pascal’s Rascals we called them, and his rendition of them speaking over the walkie-talkies was spot on. He always ended our phone conversations with a hilarious impersonation of one of them.

I met “Bird” in 1966 at Rockhurst College where we were fraternity brothers.  I had always valued our friendship over the years and could pick up where we left off even if we hadn’t talked for a while.  We would reminisce about our college days and about the days we lived next to each other in the same apartment complex with our young families.  We had no money back then, but we certainly had a lot of fun.  But, it wasn’t till September of 2008 when my son Brian suddenly passed away that I realized how truly great a friend Don was.  He, along with my other fraternity brothers, picked me up and carried me on his shoulders. I will never forget his thoughtfulness and concern for me, Mary Ellen, and our daughters.

To you, Suzy, Christy, Cory, and the entire Emig family, we are so very sorry for your loss of this wonderful man.  We know he was such a loving husband, father, and grandpa, and he was so proud of all of you.  May your sweet memories with Don sustain you during this very difficult time ahead. Don & I grew up together in Vinita Park,Mo. a suburb of St. Louis. We went to the same grade school, high school & college.I knew him through several stages of life,& he was always FUN. I always thought he had the perfect job for his personality, selling toys ; bringing fun to kids. A few years ago we reconnected & I was on his email list (once again  fun). He was a great guy who will be missed.        My sympathy to the whole family including his twin brother Ron.

Don was a man of integrity, etiquette, and trust.worthiness. He was the best boss and manager I have ever had. He was a teacher, friend, advisor, confidante, leader, and just plain nice. He will be forever missed and never ever forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with Suzie and the girls.

We are so very sorry for all of the Emig  family! Don was a great friend, neighbor, golf buddy to Glenn and all around good guy! He will be missed by all!

The times we had together at Empire I’ll never forget.  He was my boss and friend and someone who brought so many memories of good times. I’ll miss you Don Emig.   My prayers to you Suzy and your family. 

Went to HS in St Louis with Don. He was a great guy who enjoyed life. May he Rest In Peace and God bless him

Don and I were college roommates and we really enjoyed the times we spent together.  We played soccer together, both from St.Louis, and had many common interests.  ‘Emmer’ was a happy go lucky guy who enjoyed being around people.  He was the life of the party - a great family man and a true friend.  I am very saddened to hear of his passing.  My prayers and condolences to the the family.

I am Joan Nilges McAtee,cousin to Don. My prayers for the family. Many fond memories of Aunt Christine and Uncle Merl. 

Don called on me for several years while at WMT. I learned guickly to respect him. I hope he considered  me a friend. RIP Don.

Emmer was a special friend. Not only a fraternity brother but a real brother to me and all the Suzzers. We will always cherish his memory and the great times we had together. He always brought joy to our get together's and will be missed tremendously. I will personally miss our late night conversations when both of us were sitting on our respective patios/decks, having a cocktail, and reminiscing about the Suzzers and our families. He always said I taught him a lot of things. Not sure they were all good though.

Jim and I loved our friendship with Don and Suzy.  We loved how he always had a smile on his face. We loved his humor and how he laughed at his jokes along with us. We cherish all the good times we had together. (Wolf Harbor) being the most notable. I regret that we had not seen each other for many years, but that doesn’t diminish our memories.  We will keep you in our hearts until we meet again.

My memories of Emmer are filled with his always smiling face and his laughter. He didn’t just smile, he radiated joy. My deepest thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. How beautiful that you all could be with him.

Since I am a 1967 Rockhurst and Suzzer grad, I only knew "Emmer" for one year and now I know what a character I did not get to know very well at that time. But since 2006 when this crazy bunch of Suzzers reunited, I have seen what a fun guy, smart guy my younger fraternity brother IS. Las Vegas, K.C. golf tournaments, ZOOM calls and all his poignant and often hilarious e-mail/internet messages will be a real memory to cherish. Sincere wishes of peace and God's blessings for Suzy, their children and grandkids. You were so lucky he was husband, father and grandpa. The Suzzers who gather next month for our annual golf extravaganza will honor the memory of Don, one of our best.
