

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Dorothy Lee Rayburn Wood, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 23, 2017 at the Marietta Living Center of Marietta, GA. She was 86 years old. She spent the last days of her life surrounded by her loving family who adored her. Ms. Wood was born on November 10, 1930 to Katie Lee and Albert Clifton Rayburn of Rome, GA. There, she married D. K. Wood and had two children: Patti Wood Holmes and D.K. ”Hatch” Wood III. Ms. Wood spent the last 58 years of her life as a resident of Marietta. She was a member of her community and her church, New Hope United Methodist Church. Ms. Wood is survived by both of her children, Patti and Hatch; her son in law, David Holmes, her grandchildren; Dorothy Holmes Reavis and husband Tony Reavis, Betsy Holmes Coutu and husband Jeremy Coutu, Amy Suzanne Holmes and her great grandchildren; Aiden Holmes Coutu, Atticus Wyatt Reavis, and Carter Kenneth Coutu. She is also survived by her two younger sisters, Jean Womack and Barbara Bourne and her many nieces and nephews. In the later years of her life she was a nanny to Matt and Laura McGee, children of Dr. Beth McGee. She loved them as her own grandchildren and enjoyed the 15 years of being their “Aunt Dot”. Dorothy Lee Rayburn Wood was a beautiful southern woman who loved her family and her home. She had an exceptional sense of style and was a talented seamstress. One of the many ways she showed her love was by making clothes, quilts, and dolls for her grandchildren. She also loved to travel and shop and started family traditions of traveling to the mountains of Ellijay in the fall and to Jekyll Island in the summer. Dorothy Lee Rayburn was a kind and generous woman. Her life will be celebrated on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 2000 Cobb Parkway SE, Marietta, Georgia, 30060. Visitation is from 2:00pm to 3:00pm and the Memorial Service is from 3:00pm to 4:00pm. Following the Memorial Service will be a reception.
