

Doyle was born in 1931 to Doyle Dillard Sr. and Lorena Yaun Dillard and raised in Eastman. His academic career included a masters of education from the University of Kentucky, bachelors degree in finance from Georgia State University, and diploma from Eastman High School. He served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, sailing around the world on the hospital ship USS Haven in 1954.
Doyle capped his professional career as the Vice President of Finance and Business Affairs at the University of South Alabama, where he worked for 19 years. He held previous roles as chief university business officer for Western Carolina University and Agnes Scott College, and other business management roles at the Medical College of Georgia, University of Mobile, University of West Georgia, and Columbus State University.
In Mobile, he was a devoted member of Spring Hill Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, treasurer, usher, and Sunday school teacher. Doyle volunteered his financial skills in the business office of the church, and after retirement did additional volunteer work delivering Meals on Wheels and building homes for charity.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Shirley Brown Dillard, and his favorite sister, Jean Dillard Pound.
He is survived by his children, Diana (Bill) Brewer, Matt (Jillian) Dillard, and Jeanie (Jamie) Scott; grandchildren, Ashley (Blake) Hudson, Alex (Lucy) Brewer, Daisy Dillard, Henry Dillard, Katie Price, Alyssa Scott, and Ryan Scott; great grandchildren, Eva Mae Hudson, Liza Hudson, and Buddy; sister-in-law, Jeanette (Glenn) Wimpee; and nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends who cherish his memory.
A memorial service to honor Doyle will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at two o’clock in the afternoon at HM Patterson Canton Hill in Marietta, Georgia. Friends and family are cordially invited for visitation an hour before the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
