Dr. Sparlin passed away at home and was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Ann (Skeen) Sparlin and parents, Jay and Beth Sparlin, siblings Bernard Sparlin, Robert Sparlin, Dorothy Wilhoetter, and Audrey Daum. He is survived by his son, Dr. Samuel Jay Sparlin and his wife Lorraine, his daughter Ann Marie Sparlin and husband Gary Fannin; grandchildren Zachary Kyle Skinner, Caroline Marie Skinner, Emily Louise Sparlin, and Clara Ann Sparlin.
Gene was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated from Cleveland High School and Logan Chiropractic College. He moved to Atlanta where he met Virginia. They married and opened Sparlin Chiropractic Clinic in 1954. During his 50 plus years of practice he served as President of the Georgia Chiropractic Association, Chairman of the International Knights of the Chiropractic Round Table, President of the Georgia Board of Chiropractic Examiners, and as a Trustee of Logan College. His contribution to the chiropractic profession included ushering in insurance equality and growing Sparlin Clinic into one of the largest chiropractic offices in the United States which continues to serve after 60 years.
Dr. Sparlin was also very active in real estate and investing. His love of family and golf in his later years kept him and Virginia active at their homes in North Carolina and Ft. Lauderdale when they were not traveling with family or friends.
