Dr. Fausto Manuel Cuervo-Arango, 91, a retired Medical Doctor and Minister of the Gospel associated with Mount Paran Church, Atlanta Georgia, went to be with the Lord September 8th, 2018 after a short illness.
He was surrounded by family and friends; 25 of them sang, read scriptures and prayed in his hospital room, releasing him to His Lord and Savior.
Dr. “C”, as he was lovingly known, was born in La Habana, Cuba on August 8th,1927, to Manuel Cuervo-Arango and Ana Rosa Fernandez. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Carmen Cuervo-Arango, daughter Loida Diaz and husband Hector Diaz, grandchildren Joel Diaz and wife Lisa Diaz, Daniel Diaz and wife Allison Diaz, great-grandchildren Noah Elijah Diaz, Keilah Renee Diaz and Corbin Daniel Diaz, sister-in-law Elisa Casas, niece Ruth Colquitt and husband Keith, nephew Dr. David S. Casas and wife Ann, and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces of the Atlanta metro area. Also surviving are sister Ana Cuervo-Arango, La Habana, Cuba, and many nephews, nieces and great-nephews and nieces in Miami, Florida, and Cuba.
Dr. C. was a language lover and became fluent in 5 languages: English, French, Portuguese, Italian and his native Spanish.
He dedicated his life to teaching lay preachers, pastors and anyone that was interested in the word of God. He served as a pastor, missionary and teacher in Cuba, Spain and the US.
In 1991 he founded Berea School of Ministry on the Mount Paran Church campus in Atlanta, Georgia, and it continues to be a vibrant teaching ministry today.
Dr. C. was able to immigrate and escape to Spain on February 22, 1968 by a miracle provided by the Lord. Being a medical doctor, all doctors were prohibited from leaving Cuba to travel abroad, and Dr. C. much less since he was one of only 5 doctors on the island that held a specialist degree in Epidemiology from the World Health Organization in Washington D.C., like our CDC here in Atlanta. The Lord used a serious tuberculosis infection in 1967, which nearly killed him because, due to shortages, it was not properly treated. He had to visit Cuba’s Minister of Health, who was a fellow student with him at the University of Habana School of Medicine. He explained his plight and told him, “my life is in your hands”; the Lord moved the minister’s heart and he approved his permit to travel to Spain.
Funeral services will be held Monday Sep. 17 at 11 AM at Mount Paran Church, 2055 Mt. Paran Road NW, Atlanta, GA 30327, with remains placed instate at 10 AM. Entombment will follow at Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends between the hours of 3 until 8 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
