Florence graduated from West Fulton High School and attended both University of Georgia and University of Alabama, ultimately receiving her Masters Degree in nursing. She worked at Grady Hospital and Crawford Long Hospital. In every state her family moved to, she would obtain a nursing license to be able to care for others. She remained passionate about caring for people her whole life.
Florence is preceded in death by her husband, James Carson Baker Jr., daughter Julie Lene Baker, brother Dr. Lewis Elliott Moore.
Florence is survived by children Melanie Baker (Jerry Schell) of GA, David (Cheryl) of AZ, Matthew (Paula) of GA and seven grandchildren – Emma and Lila Schell, Zane Baker, Emily, Carson, Avery and Sarah Baker.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She often said her children were her greatest gift in life. Her children would have you know they feel the same about her. She will be missed a great deal and by many.
In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, entertaining, reading, watching football, dancing, traveling and going to the Dollar Store. Those who knew her well know how much she loved her “Georgia Ice Cream” served at breakfast before Sunday service…also known as cheese grits too many. She was an excellent joke teller and loved her little Mercedes because, as she said, she “just fit in it”.
Florence attended Mt. Bethel Methodist Church and was an active member for many years. Some of her fondest and most moving memories were from the mission trips she went on. After James (Bake) and Julie passed, she leaned heavily on her faith and family.
A celebration of life service will be held on July 31st at 1:00 pm, at Mt. Bethel Methodist Church, 4385 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta, GA . Service will also be livestreamed https://mtbethel.org//memorial.;service//. Florence was active in the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary for many years. She always referred to the SAWA as her “pet”. The family kindly asks that you consider a donation in Florence’s name to SAWA (Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary), MAAC, 1000 Center Place, Norcross, GA 30093.
