

Frederick Robert Duda of Marietta, Georgia died peacefully from complications from phenomena on February 18th, 2011. Born in Chicago, Illinois on February 29th, 1928. Fred was the son of Walter and Elizabeth Duda. As a veteran of World War II he served in the 69th Engineering Topographical Company 24th corps, 6th Army of occupation in Korea. A graduate of the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana where he was a member of the Chi-Psi fraternity. He continued post graduate law studies at the University of San Francisco. Practicing law for 27 years in Oakland, California, he specialized in litigation. Fred was active in Kiwanis and the Lake Merritt Breakfast Club in Oakland, California. Appointed as a commissioner for the California Public Utilities Commission in 1984, he retired in 1991 and served as an advising legal counsel for environmental organizations. After traveling extensively for eight years and settling in Marietta, Fred became a Master Gardner of Cobb County and active in the Atlanta Symphony Encore support group. He remained active at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Marietta. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Barbara Phyllis Benjamin Duda, his two sons: Russell Elliot Duda of Oakland, California and son William Duda, daughter-in-law Suzanne, granddaughter Elizabeth and grandson Christopher, all of Marietta. Services will be held at Eastminster Presbyterian Church at 2:00pm on Saturday, February 26th with an interment on the church grounds.
